William McGaughey of Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA, is a 1964 graduate of Yale University where he took courses in English literature, history, and philosophy. An original thinker, he developed a new scheme of world history that was presented in a book, Five Epochs of Civilization, published by Thistlerose in 2000, and in a much-visited website, http://www.worldhistorysite.com. He was program chair of the annual conference of the International Society for the Comparative Study of Civilizations in New Orleans in 2011, the 50th anniversary year of its founding. McGaughey, a member of the International Big History Association, will soon be publishing a Big History book titled A Cosmology of Matter/Life/Thought.
