She obtained a BA degree in Law from Hunan Agricultural University in 2006. She then came to the United States to attend graduate school at Western Illinois University (WIU), where she worked as a graduate research assistant until she received a Master's degree in Sociology in 2008. She started her doctoral study in Sociology at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville (UT) that same year. She also pursued a Master's degree in Statistics at UT and worked as both a graduate teaching associate and research associate.
